FBC: Firebreak - Controls

FBC Firebreak Controls Guide for PlayStation 5 and PC

FBC: Firebreak is a three player cooperative first person shooter set inside the Oldest House, and its controls reflect the game's mix of gunplay, emergency response work and chaotic teamwork. You are constantly switching between shooting, melee attacks, grenades, deployable equipment, kit tools, pings and communication commands while dealing with Hiss and paranatural hazards.

The default PlayStation 5 layout is straightforward once you know where the important actions live. L2 aims, R2 shoots, Square reloads, R3 performs a melee attack, Cross jumps and Circle crouches. Your grenade and deployable item sit on R1 and L1, while Triangle handles the equipped tool or weapon and can also activate an Altered Augment depending on context.

The controls below are based on the in game controller menu shown on PS5. FBC: Firebreak supports controller remapping, adjustable stick sensitivity and stick inversion, so a customized setup may differ.

Movement

Use the left stick to move and the right stick to look around. Press L3 while moving to sprint.

Firebreak encounters can become crowded quickly, especially when enemies, environmental hazards and mission objectives overlap. Good movement is often more important than squeezing out another second of damage.

Keep Space behind You

Avoid fighting with your back against a wall unless the Job forces you to. Leaving a route open makes it easier to retreat from Hiss groups, explosives and environmental effects.

Sprint between Objectives

Many Jobs involve moving repeatedly between work areas. Sprint during quiet moments so you can spend more time actually completing the objective.

Crouching and Jumping

Press Circle to crouch and Cross to jump.

Crouching is useful for navigating cover and controlling your profile during gunfights, while jumping helps you cross cluttered workspaces and escape awkward corners.

Do Not Jump through Every Fight

Constant jumping can make precise shooting harder. Use it to clear obstacles or escape danger rather than treating it as your main defensive move.

Aiming and Shooting

Hold L2 to aim and press R2 to fire.

Firebreak's weapons feel noticeably different from one another, so spend some time learning recoil, effective range and magazine size before settling on a favorite.

Aim for Controlled Bursts

When a weapon becomes difficult to manage at range, release R2 briefly and let your aim settle instead of emptying the magazine into the wall behind the Hiss.

Do Not Ignore Weak Targets

Small enemies can become dangerous when they accumulate. Clearing them quickly keeps the squad from being overwhelmed while handling tougher threats.

Reloading

Press Square to reload.

Square is also the contextual interaction button, so the action changes when you are standing near something usable.

Reload during Natural Downtime

Top up after a wave or while repositioning instead of discovering an empty magazine when an elite enemy reaches you.

Weapon Inspect

After the Rogue Protocol update, pressing the reload command while a weapon is already fully loaded triggers its weapon inspection animation.

Melee Attacks

Press R3 to perform a melee attack.

Melee is useful when an enemy reaches point blank range or when finishing a weakened target without spending more ammunition.

Do Not Chase Melee Damage

Firebreak is still primarily a shooter. Running through several enemies just to land one melee hit often creates more danger than the saved bullets are worth.

Using the Flashlight

Press D Pad Up to toggle the flashlight.

The Oldest House can become extremely dark in some sections, and poor visibility makes it easy to miss hazards, objective components and enemies.

Use It before Entering Dark Rooms

Turning the flashlight on before you cross a doorway is safer than discovering a hostile group only after walking into it.

Ping Controls

Press D Pad Down to ping.

Pings are one of the fastest ways to communicate with teammates. Use them for dangerous enemies, mission objects, useful equipment and routes.

Ping What Matters

Repeatedly marking every object creates noise. Reserve pings for something your squad should actually react to.

Voice Wheel

Press D Pad Right to open the Voice Wheel.

Quick communication is valuable when playing without a microphone. FBC: Firebreak also supports cross platform voice chat, so voice communication is available when you want more detailed coordination.

Use Quick Calls during Combat

A short warning or request is better than trying to explain an entire plan while several Hiss are attacking the team.

Spray Wheel

Press D Pad Left to open the Spray Wheel.

Sprays are largely expressive rather than tactical, but they are a quick way to personalize the Oldest House between firefights.

Interacting with Objects

Press Square to interact with usable objects, Job machinery and other contextual elements.

Many Firebreak objectives involve more than killing enemies. You may need to repair, clean, operate or otherwise deal with equipment while the rest of the squad provides cover.

Finish the Job, Not Just the Fight

Killing every nearby Hiss does not automatically advance the mission. Watch the objective and interact with the required equipment as soon as the area becomes safe enough.

Grenades

Press R1 to throw your equipped grenade.

Grenades are strongest when enemies are grouped together or funneled through a predictable route.

Do Not Throw into Your Teammates

Firebreak rewards coordination, and careless explosive use can create chaos for the entire squad. Check where your teammates are moving before throwing into a crowded objective area.

Deployable Items

Press L1 to deploy the equipped item.

Deployables vary according to your loadout and can provide utility that is just as important as your weapon.

Use Equipment before the Crisis Peaks

A deployable placed while the team still has room to move is usually more useful than one activated after everybody is already surrounded.

Emergency Mini Games

Certain emergency interactions use L1 and R1 as left and right inputs.

These contextual mini games are tied to situations where equipment or the environment requires immediate attention.

Have One Player Handle the Interaction

When possible, let one Firebreaker concentrate on the mini game while the others control nearby enemies.

Altered Augments

Press Triangle when the Altered Augment action is available.

Altered Augments provide powerful paranatural abilities that can change the course of an encounter. Their effect depends on what you have equipped.

Use Augments when They Can Change the Fight

Do not waste a powerful ability on a lone weak enemy. Save it for dense waves, dangerous elites or moments when the squad is losing control of the room.

Toggle Tool and Weapon

Triangle also toggles between the relevant tool and weapon in contexts where that action is available.

Your tool is not optional busywork. Firebreak Jobs are built around combining weapons with specialized equipment, so get used to swapping before the objective becomes urgent.

PC supports additional secondary bindings, and the control menu lets you reassign inputs if the defaults do not suit your setup.

How to Remap Controls

Open Options and select the Controls tab. From here you can change supported bindings or restore the control scheme with Reset Controls to Default.

Controller settings also include adjustable stick sensitivity and inversion options.

Keep Interact and Reload Comfortable

These actions are used constantly. If you remap controls, make sure both remain easy to reach during hectic objectives.

Prioritize Grenades, Equipment and Tools

A custom layout should make your full kit easier to use rather than turning Firebreak into a basic shooter where only the weapon controls feel comfortable.

Learn the Utility Buttons as Quickly as the Gun Controls

Aim, shoot and reload will feel familiar immediately, but Firebreak becomes much easier once L1, R1, Triangle and the D Pad become second nature. Grenades, tools, deployables, augments and pings are a major part of how the game expects a crew to handle the Oldest House.

The strongest Firebreaker is not simply the player with the best aim. It is the player who keeps the objective moving, communicates useful information and uses the right piece of equipment before a room becomes impossible to control.
