BALL x PIT has a small control set, but every input matters because you are moving, aiming and managing ricochets at the same time. During a run you control your hero with one stick, aim with the other and fire balls into increasingly crowded enemy formations. The game also includes separate controls for automatic firing, game speed, New Ballbylon building and resource harvesting.
The default controller layout is especially comfortable once you learn to aim independently from movement. PlayStation and Xbox players can also remap the controls, so the buttons below refer to the standard layout.
BALL x PIT Controller Controls
| Action | PlayStation | Xbox |
|---|---|---|
| Move | Left Stick | Left Stick |
| Aim | Right Stick | Right Stick |
| Fire Ball | R2 | RT |
| Toggle Automatic Fire | Triangle | Y |
| Increase Game Speed | R1 | RB |
| Decrease Game Speed | L1 | LB |
| Pause | Options | Menu |
Moving and Aiming
Use the left stick to move your character while the right stick controls the aiming line.
These two actions are independent. You can retreat toward one side of the lane while aiming diagonally toward a completely different group of enemies. Learning to separate movement from aim is one of the biggest improvements a new player can make.
Do Not Aim Only at the Closest Enemy
BALL x PIT is built around ricochets. A shot that bounces several times through a packed formation can be far more valuable than a direct hit on the enemy closest to you.
Look at the side walls, gaps and enemy arrangement before firing. Sometimes the best line begins by aiming away from the target you actually want to hit.
How to Fire Balls
Press R2 on PlayStation or RT on Xbox to fire.
The trajectory indicator helps you judge the initial direction, but what happens after impact depends on the angle and the objects the ball touches. Try to create paths that send the same ball through several enemies instead of firing straight ahead every time.
Use Shallow Angles for More Ricochets
A shot sent toward a side wall at the right angle can cross the battlefield several times. This is particularly useful when enemies are spread across multiple columns.
Use Direct Shots when Something Must Die Now
Not every shot needs to be clever. When a dangerous enemy is close to reaching you, a simple direct line can be safer than trying to set up an elaborate bounce.
How to Turn on Automatic Fire
Press Triangle on PlayStation or Y on Xbox to toggle automatic firing.
Automatic fire is useful during less demanding sections because you can concentrate on movement and aiming while the game handles repeated launches.
Manual Fire Still Has a Purpose
Automatic fire prioritizes convenience, not perfect timing. Manual firing gives you more control when enemy formations are changing quickly or when you want to wait for a precise angle.
A practical approach is to use automatic fire during easier waves, then switch back to manual control when a boss or dangerous formation requires more deliberate shots.
Changing Game Speed
BALL x PIT lets you alter the pace of a run without opening the pause menu.
| Action | PlayStation / Xbox |
|---|---|
| Increase Speed | R1 / RB |
| Decrease Speed | L1 / LB |
Speed Up Easy Sections
If your build is comfortably clearing the current enemies, increasing the game speed can make routine waves and farming much quicker.
Slow Down before Things Become Dangerous
Do not wait until the lane is already collapsing. Lower the speed when enemy density increases, a boss arrives or your health starts becoming difficult to protect.
New Ballbylon Base Controls
Between pit runs you return to New Ballbylon, where buildings, characters and resource production form the permanent progression side of the game.
| Base Action | PlayStation | Xbox |
|---|---|---|
| Dismantle Building | Square | X |
| Highlight Upgradeable Buildings | L2 | LT |
| Rotate Building Clockwise | R1 | RB |
| Rotate Building Counterclockwise | L1 | LB |
| Open Sidebar | Triangle | Y |
| Zoom In | D Pad Up | D Pad Up |
| Zoom Out | D Pad Down | D Pad Down |
Rotating Buildings
Use R1 or RB to rotate a building in one direction and L1 or LB to rotate it in the other.
Placement matters because New Ballbylon is not merely decorative. Buildings and resource tiles interact with the harvest system, so a tidy arrangement can make gathering resources easier and more productive.
Think about Harvest Paths
Characters bounce around the settlement during harvesting. Leave useful routes through productive areas rather than spreading important buildings randomly across the map.
Highlighting Buildings That Can Be Upgraded
Press L2 on PlayStation or LT on Xbox to highlight buildings that currently have upgrades available.
This shortcut becomes increasingly useful as New Ballbylon expands. Instead of checking every structure separately, use the highlight function to quickly identify where your available resources can be spent.
Harvest Controls
Harvesting has its own small set of controller commands.
| Harvest Action | PlayStation | Xbox |
|---|---|---|
| Speed Up Harvest | Circle | B |
| Cancel Harvest | Triangle | Y |
| View Workers | Square | X |
Use Harvest Speed Up when the Route Is Working
If your characters are already bouncing efficiently through useful resource areas, speeding up the process saves time without requiring you to change the layout.
Watch the First Few Bounces
A poor harvest can reveal problems in your base layout. If characters immediately escape the productive area or repeatedly miss important buildings, consider rearranging the settlement before the next harvest.

Can You Remap the Controls?
Yes. BALL x PIT provides control remapping, including controller customization.
If automatic fire, speed adjustment or another frequently used action feels uncomfortable, changing it early is better than fighting the default layout for dozens of runs.
PlayStation also lists advanced controller remapping support, along with options that allow the game to be played without rapid button presses, simultaneous button presses, motion controls or touch controls.

Get Comfortable with Aiming while Moving
The single most useful control skill in BALL x PIT is learning to move in one direction while aiming somewhere else. Once that feels natural, you can dodge incoming threats without sacrificing good ricochet angles.
After that, start using automatic fire and speed controls selectively. They are there to make simple sections quicker, but difficult encounters still reward deliberate aiming and careful positioning.
