Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 rewards players who stay mobile, learn their weapons and pay attention to the battlefield. Standing still while trading shots with Chaos forces is rarely a good plan, especially when several different enemy types attack together.
Whether you choose Ultramarine Malum Caedo or Sister of Battle Nyra Veyrath, these Boltgun 2 tips will help you survive difficult encounters, discover more secrets and make better use of the game's combat abilities.
Choose the Character That Fits Your Fighting Style
Boltgun 2 features two playable characters with distinct combat styles. Malum Caedo returns with the brutal Space Marine approach familiar from the original game, while Nyra Veyrath brings her own weapons and abilities to the battlefield.
Nyra's Power Sword, Melta Bomb and Fervent Slide encourage an aggressive style built around movement and precise attacks. Spend time learning each character's tools instead of expecting the same tactics to work equally well with both.
Keep Moving During Every Major Fight
A crowded arena becomes much harder when you remain in one position. Move around enemies, change direction when projectiles approach and use the available space to avoid being trapped.
Try to keep a clear escape route in mind. If you rush into a corner to finish one enemy, you may leave yourself exposed to several others. Moving through the arena is often safer than defending a single spot.
Master Nyra's Fervent Slide
Fervent Slide is one of Nyra's most useful movement abilities. On the PlayStation layout shown in the game, press R3 to slide, then press Cross during the slide to leap. Holding Cross produces a leap with slowed time.
Practice combining these movements before you need them in a difficult battle. A well timed leap can help you cross dangerous ground, reach a better firing position or escape an enemy that has closed the distance.
Detonate Melta Bombs at the Right Moment
Nyra's Melta Bomb offers more control than a simple throw and wait explosive. Holding the throw button slows time, allowing you to line up your throw. Pressing the button again after release detonates the bomb early.
This makes the Melta Bomb particularly useful against groups. Aim for the space enemies are moving into rather than only where they are standing. You can also shoot a bomb in midair, opening up another way to time its explosion.
Remember That the Power Sword Has a Thrust Attack
The Power Sword is not limited to a standard melee strike. Holding its attack button performs a forward thrust that deals increased damage and can reach enemies slightly farther away.
Use regular sword attacks when fighting up close, but consider the thrust when a target is just beyond comfortable melee range. Learning that difference can save ammunition and make Nyra more effective in close combat.
Prioritize Enemies That Limit Your Movement
Boltgun 2 includes enemies from different Chaos factions, and not every threat behaves the same way. Fast attackers can pressure you at close range while ranged enemies make open areas dangerous.
When a fight becomes overwhelming, identify which opponent is preventing you from moving freely. Removing that threat may be more valuable than attacking the nearest enemy or the one with the most health.
Against charging enemies such as Bloodletters and their Juggernauts, watch their approach and avoid leaving yourself without room to maneuver.
Use the Automap When a Level Becomes Confusing
Boltgun 2 includes an optional automap and navigation guide. These tools are especially helpful when the level design becomes more complex or when a route is easy to overlook.
If you have cleared an area but cannot find the way forward, check your navigation tools before retracing the entire level. They can help you get back to the action without turning exploration into guesswork.
Search for Secrets Before Leaving an Area
The pause screen tracks secrets separately from kills and other objectives. In the Shattered Station screenshot, the level displays two secrets and one seal to find.
That counter gives you a useful reason to investigate side paths. Before moving on, look behind large structures, inspect less obvious corners and check whether an alternate route leads somewhere interesting.
If you enjoy completing levels thoroughly, check the counters before leaving so you know whether anything remains undiscovered.
Save Before Experimenting With Difficult Encounters
The pause menu includes Save Game, Load Game, Quick Save and Quick Load. On the PlayStation layout shown, R1 performs Quick Save and L1 performs Quick Load while paused.
Saving before a demanding encounter lets you experiment with different weapons or approaches without replaying a long section. Be careful with Quick Load, since it returns you to an earlier saved state.
Explore Different Campaign Paths
Boltgun 2 features a branching campaign with unique levels along different routes. That means one playthrough does not necessarily show you every location.
If you want to see more of the game, try another route on a later run. Switching characters and exploring different branches can make a second playthrough feel meaningfully different from the first.
