Silent Hill: Townfall - Controls

Silent Hill Townfall Controls Guide

Learning the Silent Hill Townfall controls is about more than remembering which button attacks. Townfall is built around first person exploration, stealth, careful observation and the unusual CRTV pocket television, so knowing how to peek, defend yourself and read a dangerous area can be more valuable than simply knowing how to swing a weapon.

Silent Hill: Townfall releases for PlayStation 5 and PC on September 24, 2026. The controls below cover inputs confirmed through official gameplay information and hands on preview builds. Some secondary inputs and PC key bindings may differ in the final release or after rebinding.

Silent Hill Townfall PS5 Controls

Townfall deliberately keeps direct combat relatively simple. The important difference is how those controls fit into stealth. Simon can peek from cover, scout threats and avoid a fight before committing his limited resources.

Action PS5 Control
Move Left Stick
Look / Aim Right Stick
Peek from cover Hold L1
Block with melee weapon Hold L2
Melee attack R2
Reload revolver Square
Fine motion aiming DualSense motion controls
Manipulate CRTV during supported interactions DualSense motion controls

The final game contains additional contextual, exploration and CRTV inputs. Check the in game Controls menu for the complete launch mapping, particularly if you change presets or disable motion controls.

How Peeking Works

The peek mechanic is one of Townfall's most useful controls. Hold L1 while close to suitable cover to look over or around obstacles without simply walking into an enemy's view. Cars, walls, fences and doorways can all become useful observation points.

Get into the habit of peeking before entering an exposed space. Townfall's creatures can hunt Simon once alerted, and avoiding that first detection is usually much cheaper than trying to recover from it.

Combat Controls Are Intentionally Simple

Melee combat revolves around defending and choosing a safe moment to strike. L2 blocks and R2 attacks in the preview control scheme, but that simplicity should not be mistaken for an invitation to fight everything.

Enemies can take punishment and improvised melee weapons do not last forever. A successful encounter is often one where you never had to swing at all. If a creature has already committed to an attack, defend first and look for an opening rather than repeatedly pressing attack.

Using Guns

Townfall also includes ranged weapons, although Simon is not presented as a highly trained shooter. Firearms are deliberately tense to use, ammunition matters and firing can attract unwanted attention.

On PS5, motion aiming can help with small corrections after lining up a shot with the stick. The revolver seen in preview gameplay is also reloaded deliberately rather than behaving like a rapid action game reload. If something is already closing the distance, creating space before reloading is the safer choice.

CRTV Controls and Motion Controls

The CRTV is a portable television and radio that plays a major role in Townfall. It can pick up strange signals, contribute to puzzles and help Simon detect threats that may be difficult or impossible to see normally.

PS5 motion controls are integrated directly into some CRTV interactions. The controller can be tilted or turned to imitate physically manipulating the device and searching for a signal. Motion input is also used when handling certain other objects, including the map.

If gyro controls are uncomfortable, check the control options before getting deep into the game. Townfall supports conventional input alongside its motion features, so you should choose the setup that makes exploration comfortable rather than fighting the controller during a tense encounter.

DualSense Features Worth Knowing

The DualSense is used as part of Townfall's threat awareness. Haptic feedback can communicate the heavy footsteps of an approaching creature, including moments when Simon is hiding and cannot see what is outside.

Adaptive triggers add resistance and physical feedback to actions such as handling weapons and defending yourself. Combined with 3D audio, this makes the controller another source of information. A vibration or distant sound can warn you about danger before it enters your field of view.

Silent Hill Townfall PC Controls

The PC version is available through Steam and the Epic Games Store and supports keyboard and mouse as well as controllers. Exact default keyboard bindings should be checked in the released game's Controls menu, as a complete official default keyboard layout has not been published ahead of launch.

Controller is particularly worth considering on PC if you want an experience closer to the PS5 design. Townfall was built with tactile interactions in mind, although keyboard and mouse players may prefer the precision of mouse aiming and should rebind frequently used stealth actions somewhere comfortable.

Which Controls Matter Most?

If you only remember a few things when entering St. Amelia, remember peek, defend and observe. Townfall is not designed around clearing every room through brute force. The CRTV can reveal information, cover can keep Simon unseen and hiding or escaping can preserve resources that become far more useful later.

Once the controls become instinctive, the important question changes from “How do I attack this monster?” to “Do I actually need to fight it?” That is the question Townfall's control scheme is designed to make you ask.
