MindsEye combines third-person shooting, driving, drone control, cinematic interactions, and user-created activities, so its button layout changes slightly depending on what Jacob Diaz is doing. The basic scheme follows familiar action-game controls: move and aim with the sticks, aim with L2 or LT, fire with R2 or RT, interact with Triangle or Y, and reload with Square or X. Following a post-launch update, the evade roll is assigned to X on PlayStation or A on Xbox, while pressing L3 during aiming swaps the camera shoulder.
The table below covers the current standard controller layout and the most important contextual commands. Some missions display additional prompts for drones, machinery, hacking, or scripted sequences, and individual bindings can be changed through the Controls Mapping menu.

MindsEye Vehicle Controls
Driving is a major part of the campaign, including ordinary travel, pursuits, timed routes, and combat-heavy chase sequences. Smooth steering is more useful than constantly holding full acceleration, especially because several missions punish missed turns or collisions.
| Vehicle Action | PlayStation | Xbox |
|---|---|---|
| Steer | Left Stick | Left Stick |
| Look Around | Right Stick | Right Stick |
| Accelerate | R2 | RT |
| Brake / Reverse | L2 | LT |
| Handbrake | Circle | B |
| Exit Vehicle | Triangle | Y |
| Change Camera | R3 | RS |
| Vehicle Horn / Contextual Action | L3 | LS |
Drone and Contextual Controls
Certain missions let Jacob operate or command drones. These sections may use either direct flight controls or contextual commands, depending on the mission. The game displays the relevant prompts when control changes, so watch the lower corners of the screen instead of assuming the normal shooting layout is still active.
- Direct drone movement normally uses the analog sticks, with one stick controlling direction and the other controlling the camera or altitude.
- Drone actions such as scanning, targeting, firing, hacking, or disabling equipment are assigned contextually to the shoulder and face buttons.
- Hack upgrades introduced through updates can allow multiple robotic targets to be affected when sufficient charges are available.
- Driving missions may temporarily replace ordinary face-button actions with mission-specific commands.
- Quick-time sequences display their required button directly on screen and may not match normal exploration actions.
Additional Control Notes
- Evade Roll: The current controller mapping uses X on PlayStation and A on Xbox.
- Shoulder Swap: Press L3 or LS while aiming to move the camera between Jacob's left and right shoulder.
- Controls Mapping: On PC, controller assignments are found in the separate Controls Mapping section rather than only under Mouse and Keyboard.
- Context-sensitive inputs: The same button can perform different actions while walking, aiming, driving, flying a drone, or interacting with machinery.
- Check for updated bindings: MindsEye has received substantial post-launch gameplay patches, so returning players should review the controller menu after installing an update.
- Controller troubleshooting: PC players using Steam Input or third-party controller software should avoid applying two remapping layers at once, as this can create duplicate or incorrect inputs.
